Megan and Patrick were married in the bride’s parent’s backyard in Fair Oaks, California. We felt absolutely blessed to have the opportunity to make this couple’s intimate wedding a reality. Roger of E.P.Love captured so much joy and emotion through photos that bring us right back to this sunny wedding day every time we look at them!
The Hickey residence was eclectic and welcoming. Bright Persian and Turkish rugs decorate each room and the walls are covered in windows, bringing the colors and movement of the garden into their home. The front and back yards had a spectacular combination of flowers and plants, with a small creek, tall beautiful trees, and a white picket fence. Megan, her mother and some of the bridesmaids carefully filled over forty twine tied bud vases and mason jars with flowers which we scattered throughout the property. We love how creative and talented this crew was!
Mandy Makeup Artistry and Amy Bridgestock Hair Design and Beauty met Megan and her crew, dressed in bright kimonos, at the house to kick off this best day ever with gorgeous hair and makeup. Megan wore her hair up in loose curls with tiny blush garden roses and greenery tucked into the back. The updo highlighted the back of her incredible wedding dress. The gown had a unique and intricate lace pattern with a nude underlay and capped sleeves. She was stunning.
We loved this first look. Instead of standing behind her groom, Megan walked towards him. The two were surrounded by garden greenery as they soaked it all in and posed for pre-ceremony photos. Afterwards, their stylish wedding party joined. The groomsmen wore white shirts and grey slacks, ditching the tie for a more casual look. The bridesmaids wore completely unique dresses, each in a beautiful shade of pink or purple. Their DIY bouquets were packed full of colorful wildflowers with long stems and lots of greenery.
The ceremony took place under an incredible arch that Megan’s parents made for her brother’s wedding in the same garden a year earlier. The Flower Shop designed the perfect floral arrangement to decorate this copper structure and the couple brought one of the rugs from the house outside to lay on the grass. Megan’s father walked her down the aisle and her reaction to seeing family, friends and her groom was heartwarming. She cried happy tears while her father held tightly onto her hand.
These two had so many special moments during their ceremony. Poem readings, a letter box, gifts to their parents, and the most beautiful acoustic performance by one of the bridesmaids were just a few. I struggled to keep my eyes from welling up with tears and I’m sure most of their guests did the same. Megan and Patrick celebrated becoming husband and wife with a first kiss and the release of monarch butterflies that we’re sure are still hanging out in this magical garden today. Just wow, so much joy!
Cocktail hour was full of energy, with yard games, a DIY photo booth and refreshing drinks! Reception tables were set up on the patio’s two levels. Each decorated with gold napkins, handcrafted floral centerpieces, succulents and sprigs of fragrant eucalyptus. As the sun went down the garden came alive with tiki torches, twinkle lights and candles. Taylor’s Market brought their smoker and served up delicious BBQ and while the bride and groom listened to speeches and were careful to visit each and every table.
They shared their first dance to Tim McGraw’s Shotgun Rider while guests blew bubbles that swayed around them. Afterwards, the dance floor opened and Hossdawg Entertainment played the couple’s favorite jams all night long! Welcome to Married Life Megan and Patrick. Your wedding day was so wonderful and we’re happy to have been a part of it. Engaged Life wishes you a lifetime of backyard parties, family adventures, and Monarch butterfly sightings.
