In An Uncertain World, I’m Sure About You – An Intimate Redwoods Elopement

Bride Catherine is a super talented wedding calligrapher that we’ve been lucky enough to work with in the past, so when it came to the details about her elopement, we’ve let her tell her story!!

“Originally, we had planned to still get married on April 25 with immediate family in my dad’s backyard in Chula Vista, CA.  We started to feel a little uncomfortable with that since there were a few immunocompromised in the group. As we got closer, that felt irresponsible. We made the really tough choice to proceed forward just a much smaller group. Our pastor, one sibling each as our witnesses, Ariele Chapman Photography, and Alex Alonso.

Kody was feeling really conflicted about not having his family and friends there. He is excellent about creating and investing in all of his relationships, and they mean so much to him. It’s one of the things I love the most about him. On our wedding morning, we did a CrossFit workout together, which was nostalgic because that was how we met. We showered, then I gave him cards that I’d had his closest friends and family write for him as a present. As he started to read through them all, he teared up, and I could tell that he was starting to feel excited for the first time.

We chose to get married in a patch of redwood trees in Carbon Canyon Regional Park, because it was easily accessible on the trail behind our gym and I knew the pictures would be gorgeous. Our good friend, Ryan Miller, was our pastor and his wife came as well, as they’ve been mentors, as well as great friends, throughout our relationship. Since our parents couldn’t be there, we asked each of them to submit something to the pastor that would be read for the first time during our ceremony.

We ended up loving our elopement, and feel like we had such a safe and intimate space to step into our marriage together. Now we are excited to celebrate with everyone, without compromising the intimacy of our wedding day. My husband, who was a strong non-believer in elopement ceremonies, is now recommending it to everyone!!”

We are SO happy for these two and they’ve got beautiful photos to capture such a special moment during a crazy and uncertain time in the world. We cannot wait to hear all about their epic celebration with loved ones when we are all able to hang out again. Welcome to Married Life Cat and Kody!! Your elopement was perfect in every way.
